Bringing Your Own Bike
Many people prefer to bring their own mountain bikes when travelling abroad. Most airlines now accept bikes as checked baggage whether boxed up or taken on ‘as is’ with the air released out of the shocks and tires. Contact the airline in advance to check what their policy is. Spare parts for mountain bikes are difficult to obtain in India so all bikes must be in tip top condition. Service your bike thoroughly, replacing anything that appears worn or unlikely to last. Pay special attention to chain rings, cassettes, chains, forks etc.
You MUST BRING the following essential spares if your own bike is coming with you:
- Spare mech hanger
- Spare spokes of all sizes for your wheels
